To our super stars!
For a while, we are going on a journey which will mean we need to stay apart until things are made better and we can come back together again. We will be teaching and caring for you in a different way for a while. We can talk to you through the Seesaw app, help you with your work and check on how well you are doing. Remember to do your ‘good listening’ for the grown ups who are looking after you, try your best with all we are asking you to do and most importantly, have fun! We don’t want to hear that any of you have been saying “I can’t” remember you can always try!
Before you know it, we will be back at our wonderful school in our ‘Burnley Road blue’ jumpers and cardigans, learning, playing and having fun together. ‘Winner, winner…chicken dinner!’ We will miss you all very much. Sending lots of smiles, hugs and best wishes, your teachers,
Mrs Holmes and Miss Brennan

To the wonderful parents!
To try and keep to a ‘school like’ routine we have put together some suggested ideas to help structure your child’s day and fill the morning and afternoon at home. Of course we do not expect you to complete everything on the list but please pick and choose those appropriate for you and your child. As you will see, some of the suggestions e.g. ‘Phonics activity’ and ‘Maths activity’ are very broad. You will need to look at either the ‘Reception’ or ‘Nursery’ PowerPoints below to find an activity to suit your child and their stage of learning, anything you have a go at will be valuable. We have also provided a long list of websites and other resources below the PowerPoints for your own use.
You can only do your best, please remember that. Most importantly, your children need you to keep talking to them and playing with them!
Send us a message on Seesaw if you need anything. We are still here for you!
Mrs Holmes and Miss Brennan

New Topic - Down on the farm!

This half term we will be learning all about life on a farm. We will look at the animals and their babies, how to care for them, what produce they give us, the job of a farmer, the machinery used on a farm and much more! We will also be reading lots of farm related stories and providing you with some wonderful activities. Please try to access the Seesaw app for these activities and if you are having any trouble email admin@burnleyroad.calderdale.sch.uk so we can support you.

Week 1 - This weeks focus is animals!
Can you draw a picture of your favourite farm animal?
Habitat sorting - which animals belong on the farm and which don't?
Do you know the names of the baby farm animals?
How are the farm animals cared for? What do they need? Where do they live? What do they eat?
Can you find out what produce we get from the farm animals? What do we get from sheep? Hens? Cows?

NURSERY PARENTS - Follow this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDtyjM8gsU4&feature=youtu.be to see Miss Brennan go through one of the ways we teach aspects of phase 1 Phonics (rhyming, alliteration and oral blending and segmenting) through a game called silly soup. The children are very familiar with this game and they know the song so it should be an easy one to play with them...fingers crossed!
Please make sure you are pronouncing the pure sounds - here is a guide https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTe5_Em0BHQto

Week 3 - This week are main focus is farm machinery.

This week we would like you to learn all about the different machinery that farmers use to help them on their farms. There are lots of useful PowerPoints attached for you to explore this further. We are also looking at the crops that farmers grow in their fields. Can you think of any fruits or vegetables that they may grow? What is your favourite fruit or vegetable? Could you try a new fruit or vegetable?

The last area that we are exploring this week is the celebration of VE day. We are asking out children to celebrate this by finding out what VE day is, by making cupcakes to share with neighbours and by making bunting to decorate your house with. Here is a short PowerPoint to explain what VE day is and why we are celebrating 75 years! https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/eyfs-all-about-ve-day-ages-4-5-t-tp-2549809
